THE LONGING FOR PEACE
In inner depths of despair
my restless soul longs for peace
not only for myself
but for a nation at war
My heavy heart weeps over suffering,
- - be it from death, maiming of body,
internment by force - - in a conflict
wrought with unending dual hatred
If I could only hold in my arms
young men and women drawn to battle
to support them in danger beyond repair
because of their life's circumstance
I fear that
peace birthing out of retribution
justice rising out of vengeance,
will be waylaid in a sea of embedded suspicion
Thus, I offer this petition: May prayers
that nurture peace and justice, with healing,
soon defuse divisive boundless bitterness
to put an end to raging war
